Lafayette Hurricanes Football Club, or just Lafayette Hurricanes, is an American professional soccer club, based in Lafayette, Louisiana, that plays in Major League Soccer. The club was founded in 2005 by Mexican-American entrepreneur Francis Guillermo, and played one season in the North American Soccer League before moving on up to MLS the following year. The club originally played its home games at Cajun Field on the University of Louisiana-Lafayette campus until 2009, where they moved into the state-of-the-art Hurricane Stadium, and enjoy one of the most loyal and devoted fanbases in MLS today. The Hurricanes are the current reigning MLS Cup champions, and have held onto it for the past two years, defeating the Los Angeles Galaxy both times in 2011 and 2012, and thus securing their place in the CONCACAF Champions League as well.
